Events 2014

September 27, 2014: Strides 5K Fun Run/Walk and Miracle Mile -- KLC SSCRP and Neighborhood House are partnering for a 5K Fun Run, school supply drive, and used shoe drive to take place at Kent's Foster Park.

Registration for the Fun Run will begin at 8:00 a.m. with race time starting at 9:00 a.m.  The racecourse is a flat stretch of 2.5 km from Foster Park along the scenic Green River Trail and back.  Entry fee for the 5K is $30 for adults with discounts for youth and teams/families.  The price goes up to $40 after September 15th, so register now!  On-line registration is available at Active.com (strindes5k-2014) or by paper registration form available at Kent Lutheran Church.
Proceeds from the Strides 5K Fun Run and used shoe drive will be used to provide life-saving medicine and supplies to the Upper Nile Region's Longechuk County in South Sudan.  The 5K and the school supply drive will also benefit the people in our community served by Neighborhood House.  Runners, walkers and spectators are invited to bring backpacks and school supplies for students served by Neighborhood House.  "Our goal is to collect enough backpacks and school supplies to send to 25 - 30 children of our Birch Creek clients," says Marla Brown, Career Center Coordinator of the Birch Creek Career Center.  Many of our KLC South Sudanese members and friends are also clients of the Birch Creek Career Center.
For more information about the fun run, about the shoes needed for our shoe drive, or for a list of school suplies needed, please visit the fun run web site at
